Essential Question
No matter where you live in the world, everyone labels each other. Labels will impact you or improve you. Like how a kid can be called fat and he can change his label by working out and get a hot rocking body. On the other hand, others will let these hurtful words sink in and consume them. In the old days people would label one another face to face. Now in this society it’s over the internet or in a text message.
The Scarlet Letter shows how a label can change your personality. For example, Hester committed a crime and she had to pay for it by wearing the letter A. Hester not only had to wear the letter A but she also had to go on the scaffold and let people laugh, point, and call her names. Later on in the book the magistrates were willing to let her remove the letter due to her good actions and her good deeds. On the other hand Dimmesdale did not confess to being the father of pearl and instead he tortured himself did not tell the townspeople the truth.
Now in this society people don’t really care if you are weird, geeky, or ugly. Though they might label at first but they can get over it. In the old days, if you committed a crime, then your reputation was done for. I would rather live in this era than in the old days because I can be called names and it wont affect me as much.
