Their Letter
Everyone has been given a name by someone or has been called a name. Even when you try not to insult a person or a group of people you always do. It has happened to me before and the outcome of it was horrible. My first experience of this situation was in 9th grade when I told my best friend that she was ratchet, the reason I called her that was because she called me fat and I told her to stop many times but she kept doing it. Afterwards I apologized to her but she didn’t except my apology instead she held a grudge and ignored me. Days past and the guilt was killing me, my friends were ignoring due to the fact of me calling my friend a mean name. I apologized to her again and this time she accepted the apology. What I learned from this experience is that I should not be name calling no one even though they called me a name first. I should just grow up and be the bigger man.
Another time that I labeled someone was when I was in 10th grade. My friend and I were walking outside the mall when we spotted a hobo begging for money. He came up to us asking for spare change, I whispered to my friend not to give him money because he would just use it for drugs and stuff. As soon as I was done whispering to my friend the hobo told me “Hey you can’t just go around assuming things about people that you don’t know”, quickly my friend and I left. I felt ashamed of myself afterwards because I saw the hobo getting his card board bed ready. I could only imagine how many people labeled that old hobo without even knowing him. At the end of the day I learned a valuable lesson and it was not to label people who you don’t know.
